The cleaning regime is something I do quite regularly on my car to keep the brakes maintained and vibration free. It certainly shouldn't be able to move when the wheel is fitted and clamped up using the wheel nuts, if it can either you are using the wrong wheel nuts for the rims or the wrong rims for the nuts. I'd take the wheels off, get some Scotchbrite to them until the are nice and clean, do the same with the disc rotor (you will have to remove the disc pad carrier to get the disc off) on the side where it sits on the face of the drive hub, this also needs to be clean.Īny dirt or corrosion whatsoever on any of these surfaces will stop the clamping force needed to hold the disc true from being used to stop the disc moving about. You can get knocking caused by of all things the wheels them selves having corrosion on the mating surface where they clamp to the brake disc.
